IN 1982 THE FENDER SQUIER WAS FIRST TO BE UNLEASHED IN THE UNITED STATES BY A COMPANY THAT SHOCKED MOST OF US MUSICIANS OF THAT TIME.  IT WAS CALLED A FENDER STRATOCASTER SQUIER AND SOLD FOR A FRACTION OF THE MONEY A THEN CBS MODEL STRATOCASTER DID.  WHERE DID THEY COME FROM, A SMALL WRITING ON THE HEADSTOCK SAID MADE IN JAPAN.  DID YOU KNOW THAT THE JAPANESE HAVE BEEN COPY CATTING AMERICAN GUITARS SINCE THE SIXTIES.  WHAT BROUGHT THIS CHANGE.  SOME SAY THE ECONOMY SOME BLAME IT ON FENDER CBS AND THEIR INCOMPITENCE IN RUNNING FENDER. THE TRUTH OF THE MATER IS BOTH.  FENDER CBS WAS RUINING THE COMPANY AND MANY MUSICIANS WERE BUYING DIFFERENT GUITAR BRANDS AND THE US ECO WAS IN A BAD STATE OF AFFAIRS.  ADD TO THAT THE SHORTAGE OF GOOD GUITAR MAKING WOODS, SPRUCE , ALDER AND ASH WERE BEING DEPLETED FASTER THEN GROWN BETWEEN FURINITURE MAKERS AND WHAT NOTS AND GUITAR BUIDING COMPANIES THAT THE ROARING 60'S BROUGHT ON THROUGH THE HIPPIE GENERATION OF 50'S BABIES BOOMERS.  GUITAR COMPANIES WERE OPENING ALL OVER AND AS INTERNATION TRADE WAS OPEN AS WELL WE GOT ANOTHER LOOK AT GUITAR MANUFACUTURERS FROM OTHER COMPANIES.  FENDER WAS IN A REAL BIND AND WENT TO THE COUNTRY THEY KNEW COULD HELP THEM OUT.  WITH THERE MANY FAILED ATTEMPS TO SUE JAPANS MAIN KNOWN GUITAR BUILDER FUJIGEN GAKKI THEY TOOK ON THE OLD "IF YOU CAN'T BEAT THEM, JOIN THEM".  SO THEY DID, CONTRACTING FUJIGEN TO START BUIDING OR CONTINUE BUILDING I SHOULD SAY.  BUT NOW UNDER THE AMERICAN FENDER JAPAN FLAG ALLOWED JAPAN TO BUILD WHAT WAS CALLED A SQUIER LINE OF FENDER GUITARS.  SQUIER MEANS ELITE AND WAS A HIGH OFFICE TO THE KINGSHIP OF ANY KINGDOM.  JAPAN KNEW THEY WERE GOING TO BE NUMBER ONE AND STARTED WITH A VINTAGE SERIES THEY KNEW WOULD BE WORTH MONEY, THE JV JAPANESE VINTAGE FENDER SQUIER STRATOCASTER.  THEN THE SQUIER NAME WAS LABELED ON TELECASTERS AS WELL AND THEN AMPLIFIERS AND BEFORE YOU KNEW IT.  THE AMERICAN'S WHO WERE FORCED INTO BUDGETING BECAUSE THEY WERE LOOSING JOBS IN AMERICANS DREAM ECONOMY, THEY STARTED BUYING THE JAPAN MADE SQUIERS, ONLY THEY NOTICED A DIFFERENCE AND THAT WAS THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SQUIER AND A REAL FENDER USA MC COY WAS THE  NAME.  MUSICIANS STARTED RUBBING THE JAPAN NAME OUT BUT COULDN'T KEEP UP WITH JAPAN'S GROWTH AS FENDER CBS SOLD IN 1985 AND BY 1983 AFTER THE SQ AND THE A SERIES JAPANESE GUITARS WERE BUILT.  FUJIGEN GAKKI WAS NOW FULLY LICENSED TO MAKE FENDER JAPAN GUITARS AND MUSICAL EQUIPMENT.  THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS, NOT ONLY WAS JAPAN NOT ABLE TO HANDLE THE LARGE DEMAND FOR THE AMERICANS UNSATISFIED APPITITES, BUT THERE CNC LATHES COULDN'T ACCOMANDATE THE FENDER PROGRAMS AND NEW MACHINES WERE NEEDED AND THISE WASN'T GOING TO BE CHEAP.  SO LEO FENDERS WARE HOUSE, UNTOUCHED BY CBS BECAUSE THEY HAD TO HAVE THEIR OWN VERSION OF THE STRAT AND TELE INSTEAD OF CONTINUEING THE FAMED LEO MADE STRATOCASTERS FROM THE 1965 VERISIONS THE LAST MODELS MADE BY LEO BEFORE GETTING ILL AND SELLING TO CBS FOR A MERE 15 MILLION DOLLARS.  CBS STARTED SHIPPING ALL OF LEOS OLD STOCK, PLUGS, GUITAR BODIES THAT HAD NO CAVITITY CUT OUTS AND NECKS.  THEN JAPAN'S FUJIGEN GAKKI FACTORY STEPPED UP FENDER TO THE NEW FENDER SUPER STRATS AND STRATOCASTER PLUSES CUTTING INTO THE BLANK PLUGS WITH THEIR OWN CONFIGURATIONS.. DOUBLE HUMBUCKERS, HSS HUMBUCKER SINGLE AND SINGLE COIL.  THEY PAINTED THEM RED, PEARL BLACK AND WHITE AT FIRST THEN WENT INTO MORE OF THE FAMOUS LEO FENDER COLORS.  THEY EVEN IMPROVED ON THE GUITAR BY ROUTED OUT THE BACK CONTROL PLATES AND BRIDGE PLATE CAVITIES SO THE PLATES COULD SINK IN AND BE SCREWED DOWN INSTEAD OF SLAPPED ON TOP BY FENDER'S ON GOING USA REBELLIOUS FENDER EMPLOYEES WHO WERE NOT ONLY UNDER PAID BUT FEELING BAD OVER THEIR FEIRLESS LEADER LEO AND GEORGE WHO BY KNOW STARTED ANOTHER GUITAR COMPANY, GEORGE AND LEO, G&L ALONG WITH A FEW OTHERS.  LEO WAS QUOTED AS SAYING THE JAPANESE WERE PUTTING OUT A BETTER QUILITY MADE INSTRUMENT THEN HE WAS.  AND THAT'S ALL AMERICAN MUSICIANS NEEDED TO HERE.  SO HERE WE ARE, WHERE ARE YOU.  I REMEMBER BECAUSE I WAS THERE.  WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER..
