My love affair with the Fender Stratocaster started a lot of years ago after seeing Richie Blackmore in Deep Purple playing one. They can be hard to tame, but once you understand them they sing (at least in the hands of Blackmore, Beck, Hendrix, Clapton, Gallagher, Gilmour, Knopfler, Guy, Mayer, Vaughan, Marvin and company they do!). I'm still on that journey. I have had numerous Strat style guitars (including a few of my own custom built guitars) incorporating pretty much every modifications I have ever heard of. It never ceases to surprise me how 2 very similar guitars can sound and/or play so differently to each other. The genious of Leo was to design a guitar where you can 'mix and match'. Over the years I've played hundreds of guitars, amps and effects. I've owned many. I've learnt a bit about tone and how to get it, but is it a quest that ever ends? I don't believe so, and i'm enjoying the journey.
